At It’s a Drag to Give, we recognize our responsibility to use the platform we’ve created to raise awareness about issues that directly and disproportionately impact our LGBTQ+ community. Issues like homelessness, food scarcity, access to healthcare, immigration, and general human rights. On December
4th, 2021, we will be hosting our annual signature event, It’s A Drag to Give. This will be our 6th year hosting the event which will be held once again at the Long Beach Convention Center.
Every December, members from our IDG Production Team approach prominent members from the Long Beach community and ask them to voluntarily put on drag (often for their first time!) and perform for charity. We have had the privilege of having volunteers from the Mayor’s Office, City Council Members, and local Business owners. This annual event is a favorite in Long Beach and has won copious awards including: “Certificate of Recognition” from the State of California Senate, presented by then Senator, 33rd District Chair, Senate Appropriations Committee, Ricardo Lara both in 2016 & 2017, “Certificate of Recognition” from the City of Long Beach, presented by then Councilwoman Lena Gonzalez, City of Long
Beach, District 1, both in 2017 & 2018, and “Partners in Progress Award” presented by Long Beach Mayor, Dr. Robert Garcia, in 2019.
The proceeds from our annual event go directly to support the important work of local Long Beach non-profits that address the issues specifically impacting our LGBTQ+ community. Our non-profit partners are:
WomenShelter of Long Beach, The Center Long Beach, Long Beach Immigration Rights Coalition, and a
new addition this year: Keep LBC Fit. Keep LBC Fit directly supports locals experiencing homelessness
by donating socks-with-a-cause that have local homeless resources printed directly on them in addition to
providing work opportunities within the production side of the non-profit.
Our goal is to forge strong foundational partnerships with sponsors to create an event that will again be
the talk of the town. We are looking for active partnerships to help us push beyond our past successes
and elevate our event to the next level. This is where you come in. Your contribution will directly impact
the LGBTQ+ community, both in Long Beach and around the world. When corporations, small
businesses, and prominent community members come together and express their support for the
LGBTQ+ community, we bring value to each other and create lasting impacts on the communities and
partnerships we foster.
“As an immigrant, I moved to this country with the hope and the aspiration for a better life for
my kids. Opening The B Room gave me this opportunity.”
-Rocio Rached-Bangle, part-owner of The B Room and mother to Isa and Josie.
In the beginning, like most start-ups, The B Room faced their fair share of struggles. As a small-business, operated by an immigrant family full of dreams and aspirations, they learned early-on that the community is what would help them become successful. Founded in December of 2014 in downtown Long Beach, CA by mother, son, daughter trio: Rocio Rached-Bangle, Isa Rached, and Josie Rached. Affectionally known as, “the vintage barber salon,” due to the kitschy vintage ambiance of the barber shop, The B Room quickly became a fixture in the Long Beach community.
The Rached family did not take their success for granted and wanted to give back to the
community that had supported and nurtured them. Thus, an event that has become their prideand joy, “It’s a Drag to Give,” was born. The B Room was able to fulfill their goals by establishing a successful business while giving back to the city and community that they love.
Today The B Room is a recognized ally of the LGBTQ+ community and a participant in the “Safe Spaces Alliance.” Safe Spaces Alliance is an organization dedicated to curating safe spaces locally, nationally, and internationally, for LGBTQ+ community members to let them know that they are safe, welcomed, and valued.
As The B Room business grows, they are eager to continue their mission by giving back to their community. “It’s a Drag to Give,” is now in their 6th year of raising funds for local non-
profitsand has become a beloved annual event where attendees come together and celebrate the diverse community of Long Beach.
